How is the client warned when a mailbox starts getting to its limit?

Management -

This is an internal function of the Exchange Server itself.  The email goes to the mailbox in question, a warning near the limit that will disable sending, and a warning near the limit that will disable receiving.  If a user ignores these and lets their mailbox grow beyond the limit and the restrictions are imposed by the Exchange Server, any change to the mailbox size to accommodate the space will take 2 hours to cause the restriction to be removed.
